Have you seen thefulcrum's post on using that community's Mixit layouts for DW? I used one, and did have those Additional Options -- not sure if you would find one you would like over there, but the creator does some great work, and I imagine if the one I'm using from the comm is adaptable in this way, you could work with a different one to make the same adaptation to your sidebar.
At any rate, I hope either with imported layouts or eventual DW changes to layouts, that you're able to fix things up as you'd like!
